About Me
Who I Am
Hi, I’m Shoshana Roodman! In 2023, I started Rocket Independence to support young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities during their transition into adulthood.
As a special educator with over ten years of experience, I believe that individuals should have control over their lives, and I focus on identifying their strengths and using them to overcome challenges. My areas of focus include functional skills, job skills, daily living skills, and navigating adulthood and support programs. My expertise lies in special education, where I have worked in the classroom. I earned my master's and teaching credentials in special education from SFSU, specializing in person-centered planning and self-determination.
At Rocket Independence, I help your child level up their independence. I provide guidance, tangible tools, strategies, and training so your child builds their confidence and you gain some peace of mind. My support will move your child from where they are to where they want to go so they can live more independently in the home, navigate public transportation, engage in social situations, and improve their job readiness skills.
The name, Rocket Independence, was inspired by my beloved dog, Rocket, who symbolizes the love, loyalty, and companionship that I bring to my clients. I am passionate about empowering these young adults and their families. I know how hard it is to feel behind and left out due to being different. If it wasn’t for Terry Jacobs, a teacher from my past, my future could have been entirely different.
